African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) closes applications for its MSc in Mathematical Sciences. Full scholarship, continent-wide cohort.

Second round of the SA Mathematics Olympiad — only top performers from Round 1 qualify. More rigorous, proof-based problems.

Investec opens highly competitive bursary applications for BSc Actuarial Science and BEng. 80%+ Mathematics required.

MTN opens bursary applications for BSc Computer Science, BEng Electronic, Mathematics 65%+ required.

Supplementary NSC examinations and school mid-year exams. Grade 12 mock exams at many schools.

The SA Mathematics Olympiad Final — top ~100 students nationally compete. SA IMO team selection begins from finalists.

The world's premier mathematics competition for high school students. South Africa sends a team annually. 2026 host country TBC.

National Research Foundation opens freestanding scholarship applications for Honours, Masters, and PhD students. Apply as early as possible.

SA National Roads Agency opens engineering bursary applications. Civil Engineering, Mathematics 70%+.

University of Cape Town closes applications for most undergraduate programmes. Apply by the deadline — late applications risk rejection.

University of the Witwatersrand closes undergraduate applications. Note: Wits uses its own APS system — verify your score.

University of Pretoria closes applications. Engineering and health sciences programmes fill very quickly.

Stellenbosch University closes undergraduate applications. Check specific programme cut-off dates — engineering fills early.

Thales SA bursary applications close for BEng and BSc Applied Mathematics students.

NSFAS opens applications for the following academic year. Apply immediately — this is the most important financial deadline for SA students. Combined family income must be ≤ R350 000/year.

University of Johannesburg closes undergraduate applications. Some programmes on a first-come basis after meeting requirements.

End of Term 3. Most schools conduct grade 12 trial / mock NSC examinations in September. These are the last internal assessments.

National Senior Certificate final exams begin. Mathematics Paper 1 and Paper 2 are typically written in October/November. This is the culmination of 12 years of schooling.
